Life Story
Roy Frank Mitte III was born on 21 August 1992 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three, and he later said it shaped everything he wanted to do with his voice. In 2008 he was cast as Walter White Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston's Walter White, in Breaking Bad. He played the role until the series ended in 2013, and Variety's Daniel D'Addario called his performance "a breakthrough for disability representation". Fans knew the character by his nickname, Flynn, and his love of breakfast. After Breaking Bad he worked steadily: Switched at Birth, This Close, Now Apocalypse and The Guardians of Justice on television, and films including Who's Driving Doug, Triumph and The Unseen. He walked the runway for Vivienne Westwood, appeared in a Gap campaign, and presented Channel 4's coverage of the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Early Years
RJ was adopted as an infant and raised mainly by his mother, moving between Lafayette, Louisiana, and Austin, Texas. The family moved to Los Angeles in 2006, two years before the audition that changed his life.
Family
RJ had a sister, Lacianne Carriere, and had been engaged to Kennedy Suarez since October 2025. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and fans at this very sad time.
Professional Achievements
In 2013 RJ received the SAG-AFTRA Harold Russell Award for his work on Breaking Bad. With the cast he was nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2012 and 2013, and the ensemble won in 2014. He was a Screen Actors Guild spokesman for actors with disabilities, a United Cerebral Palsy ambassador, a Shriners Children's ambassador and president of the Mitte Foundation, which his grandparents founded.
Passions & Hobbies
RJ was a tireless advocate for people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities, speaking at schools, universities and events around the world. He believed that representation matters, and that disabled people should be seen as the stars of their own stories.
